March is Pet Poison Prevention Awareness Month and is the perfect time to check your home and yard for harmful poisons that may affect your pet.

Many poisons are commonly known, like chocolate and medicine, but others may not be as top of mind. Review the list below on top dog and cat poisons you should be aware of. Take the time to pet proof your home and keep all potential poisons out of reach to avoid unfortunate accidents.

You can also go directly to the emergency vet if your local veterinarian is not available. Be sure to bring the item ingested if possible, to help your veterinarian treat your pet. To be prepared in the event of a poisoning, keep a notecard of your local vet’s phone number, along with the nearest emergency vet clinic and directions.
